Early Years
Welcome to Reception at Grove Park:
Our curriculum is learner centred. Key person-relationships with pupils are cultivated to ensure pupils feel safe and secure. We pay close attention to the characteristics of effective learning to carefully examine the ways in which individual pupils learn.
The prime areas PSED, CLL and PD are given priority, to ensure that pupils are developing the skills they need to access our classrooms and broader curriculum. Pupil’s interests are used to present knowledge and skills in familiar contexts. A strong emphasis is given to early language with close attention being given to oracy, drama, vocab and phonics.
Our curriculum is carefully sequenced using expert knowledge provided by cross trust subject leaders and teams, explicitly teaches pupils skills and gives time for retrieval through enabling environments, and follows the Educational Programmes and is steeped within the local context of Sittingbourne and the surrounding villages. Trips, visitors and activities are carefully planned to secure pupils ‘cultural capital’.

Please take note of upcoming dates that will be sent out via email, Tapestry or notes on the classroom door, informing you of the upcoming workshops that will take place.
Transition:
At Grove Park Primary School, we believe that building strong, positive relationships with both children and parents is key to a happy and confident start to school life. We provide a range of opportunities for families to get to know us and for children to become familiar with their new environment before joining. These include our fun OPAL Stay and Play sessions, where children can explore and enjoy juice and biscuits, as well as summer postcards sent home to keep in touch and build excitement for the year ahead. We also offer classroom stay and play sessions, giving children the chance to take part in engaging activities and meet their new teachers and classmates. Through these experiences, we aim to create a smooth, welcoming transition into school life for every child.
