Art

Art at Grove Park Primary School

“Every child is an artist” – Pablo Picasso

Art is a subject that allows all children of all abilities and age to show their creativity and to express their feelings and ideas in an inventive and inspiring manner.

To achieve this, they are able to experiment, discover and explore a wide range of mediums across their primary school journey with increasing confidence, allowing the children to appreciate art and build on their artistic skills each year. Here at Grove Park we ensure that Art is enjoyed by all and we use it to celebrate key events and dates across the year. We ensure that art is seen as a process, where the children have time to practise the skills, produce their masterpiece and then evaluate their work.

Throughout their school years, they will be taught about (and inspired by) a variety of different artists across all periods of history and will be able to recreate their own versions or art, which is stimulated from the original.

“Art has the role in education of helping children become like themselves instead of more like everyone else.” – Sydney Gurewitz Clemens

We encourage an increasing appreciation for art through our discovery topics, allowing children to represent their knowledge in an imaginative and innovative way. This shines through our pupils and it gives them the opportunity to display and produce their work with confidence and pride.
